Adam Carl Stephens
After completing a course at the College of Contemporary Guitar in 1995, and following the advice of guitar teacher Chris Turner, Adam released his debut instrumental album "Skybrain Surfing". A 12 track album with 11 original tracks, the only cover being "I'm Coming Home" by Ray Charles. Skybrain Surfing was recorded at Big Rock studios in Sydney Australia, which is run by Chris Turner who is a well known session player and has performed and toured with acts such as Rose Tattoo, Buffalo, David Bowie, Rainbow and Billy Thorpe.
Shortly after completing Skybrain Surfing, Adam went on a 2 year around the world adventure meeting and jamming with musicians from New York, London, Vancouver, LA, Scotland, Italy, Spain and France. Being exposed to so many different styles of music broadened his playing and approach to the guitar.
Upon arriving back home, Adam sent a copy of Skybrain Surfing to Australian Guitar Magazine, Craig White who sets up the magazine's CD "Virtual Jam" dug the album and featured Adam on the Virtual Jam CD in the 4th Issue. It contains 6 backing tracks for guitarists to jam to and has solo examples as a guide. After getting positive feedback from readers, he has recorded a second set of backing tracks and solo examples for Australian Guitar Magazine.
Adam is currently playing live with funk band Erratic, who have continued to move forward with a succession of solid live performances, including tours along the east coast (NSW) and Queensland (Aus), with a sell-out at The Great Northern in Byron Bay. They have had no less than three tracks from their debut Album ‘Oscillate’ (MGM) featured on Triple J amongst other community and regional stations. Well-reviewed, well-received Erratic played to a full Metro (Sydney) as they supported Sonic Animation. More recently they were at the Metro again to support The Wicked Beat Sound System. Erratic have started on pre-production for their second album which should be out sometime late in '03.
